Ken Robinson says " schools kill creativity. "

Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.

Creativity expert Sir Ken Robinson challenges the way we're educating our children. He champions a radical rethink of our school systems, to cultivate creativity and acknowledge multiple types of intelligence.

Below is a short video of Sir Ken, as he speaks about education and the arts. I do hope you enjoy it. Its a very interesting read, one that help explain children and our further better.

"The timing was right" My moms visit, and my brothers bboy dance competition

"The timing was right".  I have thought about it often, and the timing was right for me to have my mom stay at my home. I collected as much money as I possibly can, and saved up for a car rental, and extra money for her stay.

The intention was for her to break away from seeing other "Sick elderly people" in her facility and refresh her eyes and her senses to what her exposure which once was; the city streets with a hint of family love.

So the footage below is the essence of my experience having her with me, viewing my older brother Tomas "aka":  "BBOY ATOMIC" and also sharing her time with others.

Love is pure energy, the purest thang that is so powerfully undescriable... that gives LIFE back into lives... Love you forever mami !!

Re Cap: Quisqueya en el Hudson: July 11 2010 ( rebirth for me )

My son and I woke up during our daily home routine on Sunday morning, and as we finished, we got excited to go out and meet Aquino's little brother Ray Pena. It was also exciting to get the park, as I was to reunite with Ray. Once linked up with Ray, out side of the DYCKMEN'S ( A ) train station, I then saw able to see how beautiful this amazing park was, from where we were standing. To add; I never been there before, as a New Yorker that sucks.

walking to the site, there were many of its founders of this event, gearing up, toning equipments, gathering and organizing the area. I didn't know what to expect. from what I was told this event happened annually, and its is its 15th year of doing so. WOW since me living in the city, I never knew about such things like these

As soon as  set up near the stage, I took some time to get my old camera, to try to capture the feeling that I was getting from the moment I stepped into this enclosed park. The feeling was so unique, was so inviting that all I could do was stand there and take a deep breath while I look around me and smile. I felt happy, although I didn't know anyone there.

In that moment, I heard music coming from a corner of the park. I walked to wards it, and the following video is what I captured before the show even started.

Thank you: Voodo Ray, Jeffery Miu, Krts, Alex Bershaw

Since 2007, my older brother Tomas, myself and little brother Jorge has joined together to make t shirts. We started off with silk screens, and sold so many during a two year period. We learned alot during these years, and also a ton of unexpected events rolled on by since then.

The ups and downs contributed for us to semi - split into our own experiences, until we each felt that we can find a way to come back to our foundations.

During this new year, at my solo show, I was able to sell at FRESTHETICS, ( a Brooklyn based t shirt and events art shows), has allowed me to preset my art in their vicinity. This made t possible for me to sell some t shirts that my older sister Margarita Matarrita that's has helped me create a few images of my paintings onto t shirts. * just to test them out.

Thanks for a few that did bought a few of my t-shirts when I was able to, and also took great pictures of them, I truly appreciate it deeply! Thank you: Voodo Ray, Jeffery Miu, Krts, Alex Bershaw

TWO......... ART SHOWS........ both free, on Sunday July 11..........

Not so long ago, I had made a new friend by the name of Aquino Fermin, via the notorious facebook. And through him he was able to link a special program that features the Dominican's and their heritage and culture in a one day special event in the Heights. Little that i know, these events n the Heights, showcase many little programs and presentations, where the focus s on the experience and the learning of its culture.

Very much honorer to REALLY WORK in my community, with my people as to what I do, and teach at the same time the little one, if any chance given! Our future lays in the many ways we can provide a visual conversation for the little ones to see. Its our duty and our responsibility

Quisqueya en el Hudson is an annual cultural and educational festival that celebrates the musical traditions from the Dominican Republic, Haiti and neighboring islands. Quisqueya en el Hudson stimulates the youth to learn about their culture and in turn serves as an agent of change for the Dominican community to embrace their roots.

Quisqueya en el Hudson, which was launched in 1996, is the first large-scale event to feature traditional Dominican music and dance in the metropolitan region and is an outgrowth of a four-year research and technical assistance project initiated by the Center for Traditional Music and Dance.

Quisqueya en el Hudson showcases over 50 premier, community-based artists and serves as a catalyst for unifying diverse groups within the Dominican community for a single purpose – to strengthen and maintain Dominican cultural identity. It features outstanding Dominican artists performing a wide range of music and dance traditions, including the Afro-Dominican folk style drumming and song-based palos, and gaga. The festival showcases a wide array of dance performances, adapted from African and European forms, which are extremely popular in Dominican folklore.

You can more then willing to walk with me over to Camaradas, for a much needed R&R visual with the much grown artist, and they paint the night with music! are you with me?

RE: CAP: Art Battles Painting LIVE at the Brooklyn Museum July 3rd 2010

Ever since I found out I had the chance to paint with them I was thrilled; even more ecstatic was when I was told it will be held at the Brooklyn Museum! " I almost lost breath, thinking this is so unreal. I was stuttering when I said..." ye yes ..yea YES!!! ha ha ha its true.

The Art Battle program was about Andy Warhol, and the theme was "American Icon". I was breaking my head as to what to paint, I even started asking friends of either twitter and facebook for any suggestions. I have to say, I do have some really darn cool friends! they encouraged me all the way through! I LOVE YOU GUYS!

I finally got the idea after surfing through art archives of Andy Warhol and notice he painted in his contemporary life time, people that were also famous. I then looks at what I notice that are contemporary in my life time, and I remember seeing a program of Lady Gaga's interview where she herself has commented on Andy Warhol's art and fashion. WOW this is exactly what I wanted to do then, but how? I had to find several images...

After getting what I wanted visually, I was set off to travel from the Bronx to Brooklyn. I had to say  got there late, an hour and some change late.  I stopped at Nevins and walked out to catch a taxi. As soon as I paid the cab driver, I bolted out of there as ran straight to the main lobby . "Where the heck are they?" As I stood there looking lost, two people smiled and gestured me to hurry: " THEY ARE OUT SIDE... " I smiled back and ran like a mad woman to the out door, and then I saw the massive crowd. WHOA... I even saw my friends had already started painting. I felt horrible that I was late. Sean Bono wasn't happy with me, and I totally understood and felt so horrible about myself for not leaving earlier from my house. I am sorry homie ! I still love ya.

Ok ok, Sean and Lexi and I hover over the next details of the show. The music is still playing, and then a break. Sean introduces us, the ladies to paint, YEA.... he we go! I got all my painst together, my brushes, and reference... and as soon I was done, and Lexi was done getting our stuff ready, the second half of the battle began!

I must say: I never really like painting wet on wet due to the fact that the work will become muddy. I have to have tons of color to achieve a clean look of work. But I do say: I love working on this theme, and I loved that is was a challenge for me as well! from the corner of my eye, I saw Tasty Keish, Conscious, Mark Anthony Vigo, Wendy from New Paltz, Fernando Leon, B Metals, Jen One, Aquino and brother, man the list goes one! WOW, Brooklyn is a huge place where there is a lot of love! Aquino and his camera took some of this pics.. waiting on soem new ones... yay..

I didnt win, but I had so much fun! the battle was between Concep and Lexi Bella...

Round two: Lexi Bella won for the ladies! Congratulations Mama !
